WHAT HAPPENED TO SUMMER!!!
I can hardly believe that we are already heading into fall. I took the month of July off all things Guild and blinked and here we are.
The executive and I had a great meeting on the 19th of August and there is some excitement in the air! So here we go...
WE ARE MOVING!
For several years, the executive team has discussed moving from the arena. Thanks to Doreen Morey's efforts, we have found a new venue for our meetings that will save us approximately $175 per month. We will continue to hold our quilt shows at the Best and Bash.
The new venue is suitable, with no stairs, ample parking, and availability on the same night as our current meetings. It includes a snacks and coffee area, space for Brinhild's exhibit, a coat rack, a library area, and room for workshops, with a few exceptions. Several executive members have visited the new venue and are very pleased with it. We have already cleared out the cupboard and moved the books.
So on the 16th of September it will be official, the guild will be moving to:
We will be meeting in the Sanctuary, which can comfortably accommodate all our current members and any new members who join us this year. I’m thrilled that the church is already equipped with technology to support many of the activities I had hoped we could explore in the near future—more details on that later!
When you arrive at the church, please use the front door, where someone will be available to guide you to the meeting area. Kindly arrive no earlier than 6:15 PM, as the church may not be open before then. Lynn or I will be there to open the doors by 6:15 PM.
I’ve included a couple of maps at the end of the blog, but the simplest way to find the church is to know it’s located directly across from the hospital entrance.
Don’t forget, you can pay your membership in advance via e-transfer, which is much more convenient than collecting payments at the door. The cost for this year’s membership is $40.00.
The colour groups for the upcoming meetings will be organized at our next meeting. A sign-up sheet will be available at the table where you purchase your 50/50 tickets and submit your fat quarters. It is very important that every member signs up—we need your help!
The fat quarter colours for the next three months are:
- September: Member’s Choice
- October: Black or Orange
- November: Purple
This month, the executive team will cover all tasks. Below is a list of responsibilities for your assigned colour month:
- Managing the 50/50 draw
- Handling fat quarter collection
- Assisting with Show and Tell
- Helping Lynn and Brinhild with setup and cleanup
- Bringing snacks
Please sign up to ensure all months are filled. Your participation is essential!
Our September program features a Trunk Show by Margaret Godkin, and I’m thrilled to meet her and see her presentation! I had the chance to view a sample of her work, and it’s absolutely stunning. Make sure to spread the word so everyone attends our first meeting—it’s not to be missed! I’m also excited about the future opportunity for Margaret to lead a workshop.
Regarding coffee and tea, we’re making some changes this year. We’ll be using a Keurig machine (the church has one, and we’ll be adding to the setup). The guild will purchase a larger Keurig with a carafe option, but if you use coffee pods at home, please bring one along. Hot water and tea bags will be available for tea drinkers. Don’t forget to bring your own mug! You’ll need it to enjoy coffee or tea before the meeting or during the break.
- ELECTIONS ON MAY 19TH
Elections will need to be held in May for the following positions:
1. President
2. Historian
3. Library
4. Membership
5. Social
6. Vice President
