I did it, I did it!  I am getting the blog up on time!!!

OH My goodness!  It's fall already. I am just about ready to take my Christmas Cactus off the balcony but it really needs one day close to 0, to help promote those flowers.It certainly hasn't been too cool yet so its like we haven't left summer behind totally yet.   I love fall, It is my favourite season. I love the tree colours and the cool nights and the sky colours are on an ever rotating cycle. 

Our September meeting!

We started the year in our new venue and I have to say I think it was a great success. First off... the chairs were comfortable. 

We still have a few kinks to work out but in general it was a great meeting.

This is one way we can support the church this year.  Their goal is 100 boxes.   If you didn't get a box stop by the church and ask them for one. They need to have them back by the end of October so let's surprise them in October with as many boxes as possible.  Let's help fill their boxes.

We had a great trunk show with Margaret Godkin. She had so many funny stories to tell and her quilts were extremely motivational. I just wanted to go home and sew, but I was way too tired.

Show and tell was a little lacking but I am encouraging all members to bring show and tell. More later!

Executive meeting

The executive Budget meeting will be held on the 14th of October not on the 7th as listed in the minutes of the last meeting. Please adjust your calendars accordingly. Anita will send a reminder the weekend before with the zoom link. hopefully everyone will be available to attend.

Special Projects

I am having so much fun with the special project that Sue introduced, I hope you are too.  It will be great to see everyone participating!

Here's how I am doing it

I have set up all my "temperature" fabric, cut them up into 3" squares cut once on the diagonal and placed them in individual baggies with the temperature on them. Each bag has 3 temperatures range on it, for example: 0 to 2, 3-5, 6-8 etc. I have the bags lined up in a container and every morning I do 1 block with that days high and low from my bags, square it up and put it in its only little baggie for the month. I just google temperatures in September and then again in October.   I am so anxious to show you and hopefully some of you have made some of the blocks already or will have by the meeting...

Program for October 21 meeting


Lori St. Clair, an award winning Artist in several mediums, will be sharing her quilts along with other things to showcase her broad reach of quilting with fabric. Lori has won an award as a fabric artist having competed in the Cherrywood Challenge south of the boarder for 2 years running,



My memory is so bad, I need a reminder just to remember to set a reminder".

Do you feel like that too or is it just me?  

Thankfully Sheila reminded me that we forgot about the donations we make each year to the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels. Did you remember? Just forgot to remind me!

Oh well. If you remembered I'm, sure your placemats and (dolls/ Toy and quilt) are ready to go.

If you forgot.... Well I for one will need to get busy and get some stuff made and ready for the November Meeting! Don't forget, but in the mean time I will remember (or not) to remind Anita to remember to remind you!

And just as a reminder, we need someone to oversee this fundraiser. If you think you would be willing to do that it would be greatly appreciated.

Workshops

Sunday Daly messaged today to tell me she was lining up some workshops for us to participate in. The first one will be during the day of the November 18th meeting. Sue Fiddes will be doing a paper pieced quilted bag workshop. All the details will be announced at the October meeting. There will be a sign-up sheet at the 50/50 table.

Show and tell

I have been sewing like crazy since the last meeting so that I will have some show and tell. How about you? Lets have lots!

Colour Groups:

A sign-up sheet will once again be available at the table where you purchase your 50/50 tickets and submit your fat quarters. It is very important that every member signs up—we still need your help! See last months blog for the help we require each month.

Fat Quarters

The fat quarter colours for the next two months are:

  • October: Black or Orange
  • November: Purple
Stitch and chat

Once again we will be offering a stitch and chat on the Saturday following the meeting... this month it will fall on the 25th at 1 pm... come for as long as you want, 15 minutes or 4 hours, bring your friends, no one needs to be a member and its all on zoom so you don't have to leave home!  Here is the link;

Elections

I know it's early but it's time to think about Elections.  Here is the list of positions that will be available Next May!

Constitution

 Today has been a gong show!!!! I needed to do this blog and I could not access the original blog so I had to start a NEW one.   Sometimes computers have a way of making your life terrible and today was one of those days...  This almost sounds like the beginning of the last Blog.  hahahaha May Meeting First of all... we had a few new guests!   That was exciting. The stitch and chat was announced for Saturday and we had a great time. Chatting about the guild meetings and sewing and all sorts of things.  It was so nice visiting with everyone that showed up. Sue gave out ribbons to everyone that got ribbons from the Quilt show. (I got a first and third that mysteriously disappeared) and there were many great winners as pictured below. November all chats use this link:  link to chats November has arrived, and it seems to have blown in on a chilly wind! The time changed last night—but I find it interesting that my dog doesn’t care. He doesn’t understand that 5 o’clock has become 4 o’clock… he still wants his dinner  right on time.   (And I’ll admit… I ate earlier tonight as well! 😂) November brings new quilting responsibilities.  September 1st, 2025 Executive email: hqgexecutive@ gmail.com WHAT HAPPENED TO SUMMER!!! I can hardly believe that we are already heading into fall.  I took the month of July off all things Guild and blinked and here we are. The executive and I had a great meeting on the 19th of August and there is some excitement in the air! So here we go... WE ARE MOVING! For several years, the executive team has discussed moving from the arena. Thanks to Doreen Morey's efforts, we have found a new venue for our meetings that will save us approximately $175 per month. We will continue to hold our quilt shows at the Best and Bash. The new venue is suitable, with no stairs, ample parking, and availability on the same night as our current meetings. It includes a snacks and coffee area, space for Brinhild's exhibit, a coat rack, a library area, and room for workshops, with a few exceptions. Several executive members have visited the new venue and are very pleased with it. We have already cleared...
